| Page Views: 545 Last Visit to Toronto: November, 2006 | I Love T.O. (and I've got the shirt to prove it) by spgood301 - last update: Nov 14, 2006 |

Toronto just might be the world's most diverse city. People from all over the world have flocked there to start a new life in Canada. That's what struck me first upon my arrival in Toronto.
What I left with was the kindness of Toronto's people. My first visit was during the SARS scare. While I was there, I saw various fund drives for both the victims of this illness, and for others who were indirectly affected by it.
Tourism was way down & the hospitality business was really hurting while I was there, so Molson brewing held a city wide fundraiser at nearly every bar in the city, to raise money for hospitality workers. There's nothing like being out in a great city, having fun-and helping a worthwhile cause too. And, yes, everyone was leaving big tips too...and I still drink Molson!
And my "I Love T.O." shirt-sales of the shirt raised money to help Toronto's SARS victims (cheers to Roots).
When you think of world class cities, Toronto may not always come to the top of the list. Canada's largest city is right up there on mine though. If you want proof of Toronto's diversity, check out the Taste of Danforth, during the summer in Toronto's Greektown-a wonderful festival of Greek heritage that brings everyone out.
This picture of Toronto's signature CN Tower is kinda cool. It's silhouetted against the glass building that houses the CBC, one of Canada's broadcast networks. I like this one, hope you do too.
Diversity, civic spirit, good people...and, yeah, it's clean. That's Toronto! |

And this one time, in T.O....it's a VT meet! And what a great time it was! There's nothing like spending time with 60 or so friends, hanging out with some of the best people you'll ever meet.
Special thanks to three special people: CdnJane & hayward68 for their hard work in organizing the meet - we couldn't have had so much fun without you. Also to hotsauce28, who wasn't feeling great, but she hung with us anyway til the bitter end. You're the best, Saucie!
In the spirit of full disclosure, it must be said that I forgot my camera. I know, shame on me, but I also had to pack for a business trip. I know, lame excuse. I also missed the fun of the first night, though you can hear about that from about 60 other VTers.
Anyway, here are some "pictures from the heart" - memories of a fun weekend:
Waaleweiner's version of "I'm a Little Teapot". Hansi, you're a true gentleman.
Seeing people in person who I'd only met on line. The smiles, the hugs, all something special.
Hanging outside the restaurant with Saucie, Katmo & Kymba. I don't smoke, but was welcome anyway. Felt like old friends.
CdnJane giving me a "stress relief kit". That was so sweet of you, Jane, and much needed too.
The search for a nice, quiet Irish pub to hang out in after dinner. Glad we found one, too.
My first taste of the Canadian beer, Keith's. And thanks for the recommendation, Kaspian.
Talking '80's music, and revealing my age.
My first meeting with Pickledonions. And that was Martin's finger, not mine, in the picture ;-)
Chinese food at 1am. Felt like I was back in school. And Saucie, you're right - I am "so white" heeeeheeeeeee
Sunday morning brunch, & one last chance to see many people.
The flea market. I should have bought something. Maybe a flea. I could've easily packed it.
The birdbath in the park.
Some beautiful architecture. Some new, some old. That's Toronto.
Pints, football and laughs with Kymbanm, Saucie & Shohman (a.k.a Lord of the Pints)
Last hugs from friends, ending a great weekend.
Again, thanks to EVERYONE for a truly memorable weekend. Meeting all of you is something I'll cherish forever. Now, where's my camera...and what's up with those BLACK SQUIRRELS?!!!!! | | | Pickledonions and me. Thanks Kymbanm for the picc |
