This is one of the must see places in SF, for people watching, shopping, food too. It's got seafood restaurants, & plenty of shops to browse in. Some shops have maritime themes too. You can get some good views too. It can be a little crowded and yeah, it's quite touristy, but is one of the first places to go when in SF. My advice: spend a few hours here, then move onto one of the many surrounding neighborhoods.

Pier 39: Pier 39 for Shopping and Eating

If you're looking to buy knick-knacks from SF, look no further than Pier 39. It's right near Fishermans Wharf on the Embarcadero, and has shops for almost every taste: souveniers, sports clothing (an NFL shop), even a small Irish store. There's seafood restaurants aplenty (beware-they can be a bit expensive), access to the Aquarium...and don't forget the sea lions-they're barking for attention! Ferries to Alacatraz and other places are just up the block at Pier 41. Like Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 is quite touristy and can be crowded on the weekend. If that's your kind of thing, you'll love it. If not, you'll probably not want to spend much time there.

This is the Bay Bridge, from San Francisco to Oakland, taken from the SF side. Not nearly as famous as the Golden Gate Bridge, but a Bay Area symbol nonetheless. If you've got a car, use it to get to the East Bay, and visit Oakland, Berkeley, etc. If you fly into the Bay Area from the Oakland airport, you'll get a nice view of the SF skyline...assuming the weather cooperates :-)

SF is a very pet friendly city. Bring your best friends to the beach, near that big bridge! (Hope you can see the dogs!)

You know you're in San Francisco when standing under the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a symbol, in fact THE symbol, of this wonderful city. There's a park & beaches under the bridge, on the city side. You can walk, jog, bike across-it's quite an experience. The idea to build this bridge first came about in the 1870's. It tool some 60 years for it to finally be built. The GGB was opened in 1937. Quite a huge, important project, especially during the Great Depression. Also check out the Presidio, with a group of buildings that used to belong to the US Army. Not the most attractive buildings around, but the movie was pretty good. Being under this magnicifent bridge in this beautiful place, seeing Marin County across the bay-this is a great place to be.

Check out the Marina District on a beautiful San Francisco day. It's got some great city views, especially along Marina Green, right on the bay. See the Golden Gate Bridge in all it's glory, and some gorgeous scenes across the bay. The boats are all there, and the houses are beautiful too. And, you're right near the beautiful Palace of Fine Arts building too.

This is Coit Tower. You can see it from many parts of San Francisco, and you can see most of San Francisco from it's top. When you go inside, check out the murals on the walls. Take the elevator to the top-it's closed in by glass, but the city views are worth it. It's a bit closed in, and frankly smells like a damp basement (yuck!). My advice: get your pics, and get out of there! Still, something you gotta do when in SF
