FIELDS OF FLOWERS ON THE PRAIRIE

Up on the high prairie of southeastern Wyoming, near the towns of Albin and Pine Bluffs, crops of sunflowers are being grown. The flowers all face the sun and follow it through the sky each day.

ARCHEOLOGY

Pine Bluffs is a small town tucked into the southeastern corner of Wyoming. It lies right along Interstate 80 just a stones throw (literally!) from the Nebraska line.

Just to the north of the interstate you will see the structure in this picture. Inside is an archeological dig of an early native American settlement.

To get there, take the Pine Bluffs exit but instead of turning south into town, turn north into a rest area. From the rest area you will find a marked trail leading a short distance to the dig.

A BIG SKY, VERY BIG

If you drive north from Pine Bluffs, this is the type of view you will have. The high plains roll on and on, majestic in their own way. You may see sunflower fields, wheat fields, antelope, pheasant, hawks, etc. And once in awhile, you even see another person!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:CLEAN AIR, PEACE AND QUIET
  • Cons:A LONG WAY FROM MEDICAL HELP, NOT MANY RESTAURANTS
  • In a nutshell:AN INTERESTING "OFF THE BEATEN PATH" VISIT (IF YOU GET OFF THE INTERSTATE).
