TORNADO!

We are not in "tornado alley" by any means, it doesn't happen often. But it pays to keep an ear to the weather reports in the springtime.

On May 29th, 2008, two tornadoes hit multiple times in and around Kearney. My photos are attached.

My grown son just had a dental procedure done here for the first time, and I was very impressed with the dentist, the nurses and the office personnel.

The decor of this place is amazing; it took them a year to remodel this old movie theater, using old movie posters, velvet plum draperies, and so on.

TELEMARKETERS!

EVER WONDER WHERE THOSE TELEMARKETER CALLS COME FROM? Well, unfortunately, some of them come from Kearney. This sign appears over a Kearney furniture store on Central Avenue. In the basement of this store, telemarketers are making their calls.

One reason that telephone services often originate from this part of the country is that we have no accent. We are easily understood, no matter where you live.

HEAVY METAL TRAFFIC

The triple-track main line of the Union Pacific goes right through Kearney. The U.P. says that this is the busiest main line anywhere in the world! About 160 trains per day speed through Kearney, many carrying coal from the Black Thunder Mines in Wyoming.

There are several overpasses in town, and I recommend that you use them for safety.

If you are lucky, you might see the worlds largest operating steam engine, the Challenger, come thorugh town. It is headquartered in Cheyenne, Wyoming, but its eastbound route usually takes it through Kearney. It is quite a sight to see.

MOTORCYCLE COPS

You better be good in Kearney! The motorcycle cops in particular have a way of being invisible until its too late...for you!

Actually we have found Kearney police officers to be very pleasant and professional. But of course you don't want to be breaking the law.
