"The Olson House and the Prison Showroom" Thomaston by Rich62

Thomaston Travel Guide: 2 reviews and 14 photos

Maine State Prison showroom

When we drove by this sign, it struck us as being so unusual that we turned around and came back. We're glad we did, as there were so many interesting products, made by prisoners, inside. Go to my tips below for more information and photos.

The Olson House, made famous by Andrew Wyeth

this is the house made famous in Wyeth's 1948 painting "Christina's World". It is now owned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. From 1939 through 1968, Wyeth painted scenes featuring Christina Olson, her brother Alvaro Olson and of course the house itself. Christina was born in 1893 and died in 1968.

Although the house is actually in Cushing, Maine, I have placed it under the heading of "Thomaston, Maine" because most visitors will be on highway 1, which goes through Thomaston, and will then drive into the countryside from Thomaston to the Olson House in the countryside. To further complicate your life, the address of the Prison Showroom is 807 Cushing Road in Warren, Maine! I hope you have a GPS.

For directions to the house, go to my tips below.

On the road again

A nice country road in the Thomaston/Cushing area.
