1. The Stanley Hotel

The Stanley Hotel, named for the man who invented the "Stanley Steamer" automobile a very long time ago, is a beautiful old hotel in a mountain setting.

The town

A very scenic drive into the mountains will lead you to Estes Park. You are in the mountains here, which means it cools off very fast when the sun goes down. Have a jacket handy, even in the summertime.

3. The Big Thompson River

From the town of Loveland, you drive up into the mountains along the scenic Big Thompson River. This will lead you to Estes Park.

I love Estes Park. It is so much more than any tourist trap. You are right. It is a great city that works hard to make tourists feel at home.
