"Svalbard Expedition" Svalbard by loisl
Svalbard Travel Guide: 385 reviews and 1,007 photos
We spent 5 weeks on Svalbard, mainly hiking the remote and lonesome places around the Isfjord, north of Longyearbyen.
Back then the local government did not promote tourism; therefore they had no Hotels in 1980 (But I have to say in any other way the local governor (syssalmannen) was very supportive, Thanks)
The only possibility to stay there was camping, what we did.
Today it's different.
Several Hotels in different price ranges are available.
The official website is very informative, and kept actual, check it:

Thanks for your BDay greetings. What a refreshing destination! I can't stand to see melt this white gold ;-)
I've seen Svalbard on the map but didn't know anything about it. You must be the original "Extreme Traveler!!" Very interesting adventure!
Sounds dangerous, but a great adventure! That must be an experience you will remember forever.
Hi peter, this is really an interesting place! Very isolated but beautiful :)
How about a things to see of Ice, Ice and more Ice??? Nice page, I've always fancied a trip to the arctic! Nice Polar Bear pic - you seem to like your inhospitable terrain!
I actually had to look up where this place is. Never heard of it and it makes a very "off the beaten path" destination. How did you get on that?!
Interesting but it all sounds a bit cold to me!!
