Skiathos briefly

Skiathos is a small island belonging to Sporades group. All of these islands are green, fertile and charming. Needless to repeat that Skiathos is an island with superb beaches, delicious food, crystal clear sea and civilized, sophisticated – or as you want – a bit artificial atmosphere. Entire island is quite clean and organized. The beaches are cleaned up, the paths are kept, the buses drive according to time schedules and are relatively new. You will find the post boxes, toilets, tavernas, newspaper stands etc. Definitely, the most attractive, very impressive environment is to find on the southest tip of island. It is not only about Koukounaries beach – although being the synonyme for this part of island – all the environment is very green, smooth, calm, friendly and agreeable. Except of Skiathos Palace hotel you can hardly find the large concrete hotel buildings there, so the scenery is - lets say – almost unspoilt, sure within certain limits. Mandraki Hotel or Muses Appartments are good example for that kind of accommodation – maximum 2 floors, set up in the gardens, during the June and September almost tranquil and remote. Walk a bit into the hinterland, you will receive many stunning views toward the both coastal sides of the island, as well as toward the mainland.

Cons:high density of settlements, overcrowded in summer
In a nutshell:an ideal place to enjoy beach vacation

I'm sure Skiathos has changed. One thing you might like to know is that McDonalds did open on the high st in Skiathos town but as no one was using it! Hurrah. They now have no known 'Brand' restaurants just local fayre. Andy P

I agree absolutely with you. Our difference is that I was prepared for what I was going to find in Skiathos, hence not surprised. This is the "cosmopolitan" way of touristic development for the Greek islands. Although, many islands resist to it.
