The Joe Louis Puppet Theatre in Bangkok is the only troupe of Thai theatrical puppeteers in existence! It is a very unique experience! Each puppet required the synchronised manipulations of 3 puppeteers who move and dance with the puppet as one! Each puppeteer is skilled in traditional Thai dance, which is necessary in order to dance simultaniously with the puppet and each other. Each puppet is hand-made with painstaking care taken in it's detailed Thai costumes! The highlight of the show is when the 'puppets' come into the audience and 'kiss' and greet and tease many people. Just across from the theater is the busy Suan-Lum Night Bazaar, so after the show you can go shopping or eating! The shows run only once every evening. The shows are in Thai. I think they usually give out a synopsis of the story in English that you should read before the show (so you know who all the characters are and know what's going on!). I really enjoyed the show and would recommend you go and get a taste of traditional thai theatre!

Chatuchak Weekend Market is huge! We intended on going just on saturday and we spent all day there, and then went back again on sunday! There are so many things to see and buy! It is a swarm of people and goods. It really overwhelmed me with the range of things to see and the amount of foods and spices in the air! We had Nancy Chandler's map of Bangkok (Amazon.com!) which had a detailed map of the market, which gave us a good idea of what to expect, and what we wanted to buy or see. It is a lot of fun to get lost and wander around the market, but when it's time to go home and you are tired, it is handy to have a map. You can buy anything there. Silks galore, t-shirts (really cool ones too), fashionable clothing, 'antiques', crafts, foodstuffs, bags, belts, pets!! (puppies, kittens, squirrels, heaps of huge weird types of aquarium fish, birds, rabbits... etc! but don't go to the pet section if it is going to upset you to see them in not-so-kind living quarters). I enjoyed myself a lot there. I think I was a bit overwhelmed by so much being sold and so much to see, that I didn't really buy much! But Michael went t-shirt shopping crazy! Expect to buy mens t-shirts for between 100-150 BHT. At this market, bargain about 10-40% below what they are asking. Always start bargaining at around 40-50%. And remember to smile and be polite! That will get you the best deals!
