Errant in Albania

Capital of the South

Gijorakaster is the largest city in the South of Albania. It seems to be always busy, and has a lot of cafes and bars. Eating is cheap, like everywhere in Albania, and it only costs £1 to get a two-hour coach inland there from the port town Saranda, with some stunning scenery on the way.

Like the rest of Albania the people on the streets are mainly men, punctuated by some incredibly stunning girls. Like other parts of the country too the people are friendly, but seem very wary of Westerners.
M'aidez, m'aidez...

"Striking fortress town"

The city boasts an awe-inspiring medieval fortress where King Zog was once incarcerated. It costs 200 Lekke to visit and affords a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. There's an old American fighter plane on top, and I think they use the grounds for the odd concert, although it was deserted when I was there.

Be careful, there are few tourists so local teenagers use the grounds for erogenous rendez-vous.

Museum of Gun

Inside the fortress is a museum of arms that the Albanian forces captured or used during the two world wars, as well as imposing statues in the local style. For those so inclined it's easy to pick them up and pose.
