White Beach: A Misnomer

White Beach, the most photographed beach on Puerto Galera is one and a half hours away from Batangas City pier for 140 pesos via a speedy outrigger named Villa Natividad. Approaching White Beach, we could see colorful flags lining the beach strip. It was a heck of action on the beach. Everybody seems to have his share of the activities. Swimming, hoisting flags, fixing the stage, building sandcastle, pitching tent. Setting foot on the beach reminds me of a Boracay closer to Manila. I mean the action, the vibe, the energy. It's littered with good-looking well-heeled Manilenos Manilenas. There were only a few Caucasians outnumbered by the ubiquitous Koreans. Part of the reason is perhaps the beach which to me is ordinary. Although powdery, White Beach is brown. It's ridiculous Filipinos are fond of giving names improperly. Pebbles exist where the sand and surf meet. The shoreline is cluttered with boats. The water is not inviting either.
Resorts could not accommodate the swarming vacationers from Manila so they allowed tents to be put up before the resorts. The night was abuzz with music. There were live concerts sponsored by San Miguel Beer and Smart which lasted till the wee hours of the morning. It drizzled for a while. Incredible, Shakey's pizza exists in this part of the world. Tourism can be purveyors of civilization! Like any stuff, foods are priced to the hilt.
