The undergound river is obviously the main attraction of Sabang, Palawan but I discovered another reason to visit Sabang- the beach! The long wide beach is blessed with creamy white sand that is so powdery making it perfect for bare walking and playing beach volleyball. Going to Sabang from Puerto Princesa is not so comfy. The jeepney tires kept on dodging pebbles on the road. And we the passengers were soaked in white dust turning our hair into gritty wigs. But as we approach Sabang we were delighted by the amazing limestone cliffs soaring high, a unique view! It was dusk when we arrived Sabang on its pier. To its right is the lonely beach. After finding a cottage for the rest of the days, we finally conquered the beautiful beach and wash off that grittiness. It was probably my most memorable night swimming. The sandy bottom seems endless. It didn't scare me to go deeper as I can see the bottom glowing under the bright moon. I'm not fond of night swimming but Sabang beach made me one. Night comes and we could see a bonfire by the beach. It was a group of rowdy young boys from Puerto Princesa, their sleek truck parked beside. They look rich kids. They actually invited us for a drink. Not so long after when I noticed they were already running naked on the beach. With a beach that seems deserted I would be tempted horsing around naked too. The water has receded several meters away from the beach transforming it into a vast baseball playground. I'm free! The beach was cut by a rocky promontory to the north, hiding another powdery beach that is just perfect in beauty and solitude. What do I look for in a beach? White sand, palm trees, sandy bottom, transparent water... Sabang isn't that brilliant white but nonetheless powdery and feet-friendly which made me fall in love with the beach, no beach bums, the whole stretch of the beach is entirely yours. This is my territory and I'm gonna chase away anybody boosting on my turf! |
