Siem Reap / Angkor region from altitude. | Aerial View of the Angkor region |
An aerial view of the Angkor region - you can clearly see the large Baray built by King Udayadityavarman II (11th century), the Western Baray, this is a huge artificial lake 5 miles by 1 1/2 miles. You can also see the outline of Angkor Wat and others.
If you look carefully you will also see the airport - tiny in comparison to the Baray. |
|  | Angkor Wat Nothing can prepare you for this place. It is enormous, I visited for 2 hours on 24th Dec and went back early Xmas day and spent the rest of the day there.
The photo below was taken inside the complex, yet you can see how far there is still to go to the main building.

Ta Phrom temple This popular temple has mainly been left to nature with only basic safety considerations. The trees, as you can see, grow out of the buildings.
All in all this complex of temples are still my favourite destination to date.
