Iīve visited many towers and skyscrapers before and what I liked about this one was: 1) the view - combination of the city, blue Hauraki Gulf with small Islands around, green hills, all that makes it very special 2) there are two observation decks in two different hights and 3) there is a glass floor and walls in the lifts and more glass floor in the higher observation deck

Mt Eden: Mt. Eden - grassy volcanic cone

Itīs easy, you just take a bus to Mt. Eden Rd and then you walk up one of those side roads that takes you to the summit crater. My problem was I couldnīt find the right side road so I ended up wandering around asking people how to get on the top (They didnīt know but a lady told me I could just jump over a fence and start climbing), so I did. I crawled through a grassy steep forest without any path. But I got there and it was worth of it. Well the crater didnīt look like I was imagening, it was all covered by grass and wasnīt that deep. But the view on city was just spectacular.

The building of Auckland museum is situated at the Auckland Domain - one of the oldest parks in the city. There are several exhibitions in the museum like Natural world, Decorative Arts, New Zealand at war, City/Wild child.... but the most interesting and the best are the exhibitions of Pacific Pathways and Maori Treasures. Beautiful collection of examples from Maori culture is displayed here, you can see 25m long war canoe or typical Maori wooden red painted and carved houses in life-size, then jewellery, cloths, weapons.... Itīs a big museum and if you want to see all exhibitions youīll need more than three or four hours.

Things To Do: Waiheke Island

Waiheke is - with 93 sq km - the largest and most visited Island in Hauraki Gulf. It takes about 40 minutes by a Fullerīs boat from Aucklandīs harbour to get there. Itīs definitely a touristic spot but a pretty one. If you look at a map, you can see that the Island is funny shattered shaped, there are many beaches hidden in tiny bays surrounded by green trees and bushes. Itīs a lovely and relaxed place. When you get to the Island you just take a bus which drops you at any beach you choose. I picked Palm beach and spent couple nice hours there just relaxing. Unfortunately the water was still too cold because previous month (december) was raining to much so I dinīt really swim, just little bit... Itīs worth to climb one the of hills that they are around, youīll get a gorgeous view. PS. The buses make round trips around the Island and they run approximately every hour depending on what beach are you on, itīs alway good to check out the schedule.
