Local Customs: Tube etiquette
  • Tip Rating:
  • When travelling on the underground (aka the tube) always, *always* stand on the right side of the escalators when going up and down - to allow those who are in a hurry to easily pass on the left side. If you've got suitcases or bags, place them behind or in front of you, so that you don't block the left side of the escalator - otherwise you will probably be told to *move!!!!* and you might well hear the usually quite polite Englishmen mumbling about stupid tourists... ;o)

The trains and platforms are usually more crowded in the centre and near the entrance - move along the platform, to make things smoother both for yourself and others. Always allow passengers to get off the train before boarding.

If the train is crowded and you've got a backpack - take it off and place it on the floor, to avoid hitting people in the head with it - as you won't be able to stand still when the train is moving (and especially not when it stops!;o)

Really liked your tube etiquette tip! I miss the standing to one side thing on the escalators in other countries! It's such a good idea!

Awww... You were able to take a pic of those squirrels from so close! How did you managed that? Or it's just a good photo camera?:)
