Røros Museum, located in a reconstructed smelting hut, focuses mainly on the history of Røros as a mining town. The museum, situated by some massive slag heaps, displays accurate models of the machines and equipment used during the 333 years of mining in the area. You'll also learn more about the way people lived in the small mining town.
There are also various art exhibitions at the museum.
Olavsgruva - Olav's Mine - which is situated about 13 km northeast of the town, is another part of Røros Museum. On a guided tour you'll walk approximately 500 metres into the mine, and end up about 50 metres underground. Bring good walking shoes and warm clothes, it's quite cold inside!
Røros museum is open daily between mid-May and mid-October, closed Mondays between October 15th and May 15th.
