The small town of Røros, with around 5500 inhabitants, is situated in the county of Sør-Trøndelag, 150 km to the south-east of Trondheim. Røros is known for its copper mines, which were developed in the mid-17th century. The last mine at Røros closed in 1977.
The entire town centre consists of well-preserved and colourful wooden buildings, and the town with its nearby mines has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980. |
