Wat Phra Kaew, also know as the Temple of The Emerald Buddha, is right next to Bangkok's Grand Palace. The huge gold spires and mosaics of Wat Phra Kaew are beautiful. The Emerald Buddha (which is actually jade) is very tiny. Much smaller than I expected. The Grand Palace is also amazing. Built in 1782 by King Rama 1 the palace is an amazing example of Thai architecture.

Patpong is a night market and a red light district. The market has great items and bargaining is a must. Most of the stripclubs on the street level are very tame compared to the ones up the stairs. If you are brave, go upstairs and check it out. Here is a hint....hookers and strange stage acts. Patpong is very popular even though it is fairly small and has the same goods as other markets. It is worth seeing though.

This flea market is huge! The biggest market I have ever visited and one of the biggest in the world. They sell everything from food to clothes to antiques to pets. It is so big that I got lost and by the time I found our car I had bought so much stuff. The bargains here are great!

Things To Do: The Rose Garden in Nakhon Pathom

The Rose Garden is a resort in Nakhon Pathom. Most day tours of the floating market stop at the resort to eat and see a culture show. The restaurant is very crowded with numerous tour groups. The food is local and some other kinds like pastas. There is fruit and drinks are extra. On the grounds you can see elephants walking around and you can pose with baby elephants. The culture show is very corny with things like fake kickboxing. It is actually nothing more than a tourist trap.

The Rose Garden has a bunch of elephants on their grounds. You can watch these amazing creatures play with one another and do some neat tricks. They will take hoses with their trunks and spray each other. There are even baby elephants which you can pose in a picture with. It makes for a really cute picture.

Nakhon Pathom is a town not too far from Bangkok. It has a rich Buddhist history. As the story goes, over 2 millenia ago, a missionary from far away India was sent to introduce the teachings of Buddha to what is now Thailand. In 1853, King Rama IV built the Phra Pathom Chedi pagoda. The pagoda is huge and gold colored. It is the tallest Buddhist monument in the world standing at 120.45 m.

I do not know anything specific about this mosque. I dont know what it is called or where it is. I passed by it when I was in a cab. It is truly and amazing structure. It is huge and stands much taller than the surrounding buildings. It dominates the block where it is situated and its two minarets can be seen from far away. If you happen to pass by this mosque when in Bangkok, take a while to admire it.

Ancient City is a Theme Park which is meant to show people the ancient history of Thailand through architecture. It is located in Samut Prakan outside Bangkok. On the grounds of the park there are ancient temples that have been rebuilt. The sections of the park are different dates. There is even a section with Cambodian temples. They look somewhat like Angkor Wat. There is a restaurant on the grounds which is over the water of a lake. In the lake there are large fish that you can feed. The food is local and is very cheap. All in all, Ancient city is a tourist trap. It offers some cool buildings but they are all fake. Real ones are close by in South East Asia so it may be a waste of time to visit. Admission is 300Baht.

Things To Do: Bugs to Eat

In Bangkok, and throughout Thailand, the locals have developed a taste for bugs. It can be startling to walk past a street vedor selling these bugs. They have different kinds. Beetles and grasshoppers are covered in sauces and either cooked or sun dried. A very popular treat, especially among the curious tourist, is scorpion. I wanted to try some bugs but when the time came, I chickened out and ended up just taking a picture.
