I have been in Palestine, without being aware, many times. If you have travelled around Israel, without doubt, you have been in Palestine too. When you enter Israel overland, through Jordan, as I have done several times, then you pass though Palestine, if you walk around Jerusalem old town, again you are in Palestinian territory, if you visit the Abraham tomb in Hebron you are also in Palestine, and if you travel by bus from Tel Aviv to Cairo through Rafah, then you traverse Palestine as well. I worked as a volunteer in a friendly kibbutz called Mefalsim, in Israel, and the weekends we used to go to the beach of Ashqelon, but sometimes we went to another one besides Ghazzah. With us, being foreigners (from Spain, England, Sweden, Germany, etc.), Palestinian people were very nice and greeted us with courtesy. But usually Israeli people avoided to go to Ghazzah or to accept rides from a Palestinian car (they have a different distinctive in the registration number) when hitch hiking. |
