Castilla y Leon is the greatest autonomy in Western Europe, and its history is amazing. Almost every cathedral is under UNESCO protection, such as those of Leon and Burgos, the most impressive and beautiful in Spain, and some of its romanic churches are among the best preserved and beautiful in Europe, as for instance the one in Fromista, in the province of Palencia.
The Camino de Santiago crosses the following Castilla y Leon provinces: Burgos, Palencia and Leon.
In this autonomy you will understand why in english it is said: To construct castles in Spain. Indeed, Castilla means castle in spanish language, and in this autonomy you will see hundreds of them. The one in Segovia served as inspiration for the Walt Disney film BAMBI.
Other tourist attractions in Castilla y Leon are: plaza mayor of Salamanca, one of the most beautiful in Spain. Avila, city considered World Heritage for its wonderful walls.
Its gastronomy is delicious, and you should try the morcillas from Burgos, or the cochinillo or suckling pig in Segovia, or some of the best wines of the world: Rioja, Toro and Ribera del Duero.
- Pros:you learn a lot of history that changed the world
- Cons:it is a pity that this autonomy is little known abroad
- In a nutshell:Castilla became in the XV century the greatest empire in the world
