You need a permission to get there, which is easy to obtain in Cochin or in Goa travel agencies. Lakshadweep archipelago is like Maldives, but without tourists. I had to book a hotel, besides the airport, the only one for tourists, for about 30 US dollars a night full pension.
You can walk to the centre of the island, where you will find internet and post office.
Since I travelled there during the monzoon season, I had to fly from Panaji, in Goa, but in other periods you can take regular boats.
Lakshadweep islands are not included in the Indian airlines air pass.
