Getting TO/AROUND: Air Asia has the best rates I have found in and around SE Asia and Thailand. I usually fly last minute and 1-way (cause who knows where i'll want to go next) And have always gotten a great price with Air Asia. Recently, I even booked the same day and got 1-way fare Phuket to BKK for $23 USD. the other low cost airlines are competitively priced as well, but, for me, Air Asia has larger routes (more cities serviced). I usually book online and they do offer better prices with advanced purchase. However, if and when you book the same day as travel or within 24 hours, you cannot do it online and must reserve a ticket on the phone and then pay for it at the ticket counter at the airport before check-in (2 separate counters at BKK and SIN) The planes are well kept and free seating (like SouthWest in the states). Other great low-cost airlines: Nok Air, Bangkok Air, Tiger Air and JetStar Air ( Phuket or Bkk to Singapore), One Two Go by Orient Thai Air. .... all are great low cost carriers in and around Thailand. www.airasia.com www.fly12go.com www.tigerairways.com www.nokair.com www.bangkokair.com 1 thing to watch out for - all the Asia carriers (Thai Air included) have a 15 kg luggage limitation and charge 30-60 BHT per kg over. So your luggage could be more expensive then your person. If you are returning to an area and do not need all your baggage check with your hotel or storage at the airport for leaving it behind. Luggage Storage at BKK is 90 BHT per day (can add up fast) and is located in the International Terminal.

Getting TO/AROUND: Motorbike, aka scooter, rentals are all over Phuket and Patong. They rent for anywhere from 250 BHT to 200 BHT per day depending on how long you rent it and whether it is an automatic or manual shift. (Some of the local hotels will throw in a motorbike rental with the room!) Upon rental, they will keep your passport as collateral or 3000 BHT, your choice. I highly recommend renting one IF and only IF you are comfortable and experienced riding. There are no highways on Phuket and most driving is around town and to the beach. Since the Tsunami there are no where near the numbers of tourists as before, but be cautious motorbike accidents are one of the most common causes of injuries for tourists. Driving is on the left in Thailand (like in the UK & Australia), Helmets are required (for the driver) and I highly recommend always wearing long pants while driving (change at the beach). Laws in Thailand are strictly enforced and at least once a day, I came across a road block where they were ticketing for no helmet and no drivers license in possession.... You will have to leave the motor bike with the officers, catch a ride to the station, pay the ticket and go get a ride back....... to show the officer proof of payment and get your motorbike back. needless to say driving while intoxicated is not a good idea either, it is illegal in Thailand too! and I have heard the jails there are not very ummmmm, fun. Anyway it's a blast of a good time.
