Herero women have been converted by the missionaries in a way that underlines the totality of the submission. Whether there is anything left of God in their heads or rather the interpretation of God according to the protestant tradition (it is curious whether these were protestant or catholic German missionaries; subject of another research) the women continue to wear the dress of the conquerors presumably joining the foes once realising that they cannot beat them and make no bones about it.
Gas station refuelling ended up being rather useful for the purpose of encountering these old-fashioned uniforms coming from another continent where they have been banished for good. This phenomenon presents interesting questions about fashion as a short term trend as it is used in the white societies of Europe nowadays and fashion as tradition in the form of folk costumes still in use in different parts of the world on a daily basis. Direct relationship between the two is obvious as well on another continent with similar history, in Bolivia, where the locals have captured and immortalized a fickle detail of European fashion and turned it into an enduring tradition.
- Pros:Major stop on Windhoek - Swakopmund trail
- Cons:Local stone master has not been born yet
- In a nutshell:More than just a pit stop
