"The End of the World" Puerto Velasco Ibarra by Assenczo

Puerto Velasco Ibarra Travel Guide: 3 reviews and 8 photos

Floreana is an island bound to impress you from miles away. Actually, miles of distance are needed in order to be able grasp the weird beauty of this peppered by volcanoes piece of land. As long as the eye could see it is volcano after volcano poking out of the gentle slopes even stretching down into the sea where only the rim of a sunken one still jets out of the water - the Devil’s throat! This spot is a favourite for snorkelling sessions because of the clarity of the water – the crater is deep and there is constant current clearing all the “impurities”. Minor detail is that one should be a confident swimmer to plunge there because of these same reasons. Walking up the hills is possible and desirable but the most sensible thing to do is to go there early in the morning before the heat has reached unbearable levels. The disadvantage is that as on most mornings, the clouds gather along the higher ground and turn white fluff into water soaking the intruders wet.

I have been to Floreana (on a cruise), but never to Puerto Velasco Ibarra. Maybe another time.
