This angel sits on top of the Cathedral Church of Saint John The Divine in New York City.
This Cathedral is said to be the largest Gothic structure in the world; the interior measures 601 feet and the vaulting of the Nave is 124 feet.
The width of the nave is 146 feet.
The cornerstone was laid on December 27, 1892.
"A house of prayer it is for the use of all people who may resort thereto.
I wonder how many people know that there is a cathedral in New York.
The word "cathedral" makes me think of France and Italy,
The Netherlands, the United Kingdom or Portugal, but never New York.
I must confess that. on entering this Cathedral, I didn't "feel" what I always feel when in the cathedrals of CHARTRES, REIMS, LONDON or AACHEN.........
I missed the soul that has grown through the centuries in the ancient cathedrals of EUROPE.
They (these ancients ones) have had oceans of time to absorb little pieces of soul from whoever came to worship inside its mighty walls.
This worshippers didn't feel or realise that each time they entered the cathedral they allowed the building to take a tiny bit of soul from them.
Would they have known they wouldn't have had any objections, on the contrary: they would have willingly offered it to the Cathedral.
And the Cathedral? it gave them new heart !
THESE HORRIFIC PHOTOS OF THE FAMOUS TWIN TOWERS, ATTACKED BY TERRORISTS SHOW HOW NEW YORK AS WE ALL KNEW IT SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTED, HEARTBREAKING AND BREATHTAKING WAS CHANGED.......SADNESS, GRIEF, GRIEF.....SO MUCH!
THE WHOLE WORLD WAS SHOCKED AND HAS CHANGED FOREVER!
From the bottom of my heart condolences for especially those who lost members of their family, lost friends and colleagues, lost fire fighters and security staff, lost aid workers and......and.....
Their grief is my grief, is our grief!
bes-elisabeth from The Netherlands.
Who can understand this act of violence, of terrorism??
From this day on the world will be different! We all will be different....

Loved seeing New York through your eyes! I'm always curious to know how others see this great city! Great page!
Great tips! I need to go back to NYC, although I hope I am not shot at this time.
Visiting your page I found out how much I missed last year.

Actually, Mrs. Grant had to raise the money herself, by going to friends, elected officials, politicians, etc. She is also interred in the tomb, as is... the Grants' dog!
I don't like large cities but I would love Big Apple, I am sure now! Haha, dangerous prices and shopping there, I see. Very interesting info in General Tips :-)

Americans hear so often how we hurt the world. It's always nice (especially after 9-11) to hear how hurt the world was when we were hurt.
