IN AND AROUND BLED....

BLED is a most picturesque place, a small town with some 6000 inhabitants.

In a LAKE lies a little island with a BAROQUE CHURCH in the middle and on the high rocks at the banks of the Lake is a wonderful Castle.... and yet it is not only this beauty that makes BLED so loved by tourists....
The surroundings are so romantic!

THE KARAVANKEN protect the little town (500 mts.) against the cold winds from the north and so there is always a mild climate: till October you can swim in the Lake and the water tepmerature in summer is about 24 degrees Celsius.....

The beaches were quite crowded and it was only the end of May I was there!

The Habsburger nobility had already discovered Bled in the 19th Century.

Clear water from the mountains, the thermal baths, sun and fresh air were perfect remedies for the decadence of the Cities...

OTOK SV. MARIJA is the island in the Lake. With a romantic PLETNA (wood boat) you can be taken to the IOsland where in earlier time Ziva, the Slavic Goddess of Love was worshipped.

You have to climb 99 steps to reach the Baroque church filled with treasure from the Gothic Church that was here earlier.

In the top of the tower hangs "the wishing bell" from 1534....when you yourself ring the bell 3 times it means :eternal faithfulness........so do ring that bell!

HAVING LUNCH THERE.....

Surrounded by sunbathing people we had our lunch near the water.

While eating and drinking, oh how hot that day was, I had time to observe the local people young and not so young and the many tourists, always fun.

Being Dutch I noticed these 2 bikes wating against a tree till their owners would be back....to mount them again.....

Yes, this is a great, wonderful OUTING ....and I can't but urge you to go to the Gorge VINTGAR!
