THE WINE ROAD.....

The sweetest landlady ever, Albina Janko, put this tray with the finest wine in her garden for us, each evening we spent there......

Lots of info about the WINE ROAD of the LOWER LIPAVA VALLEY.

Sometimes the viniferous Lower Lipava Valley gives one the impression as if it has weaven a wonderful net, since there are sooo many roads that lead to it!
From the KARST region e.g. the road reaches its destination passing over "the Iron Gate" - Zelecna Vrata pass.

By following the course of river Vipava, you are first greeted by the Village Zalosce.

The route passing the villages of OSEK, SEMPAS and OZELJAN runs under the edge of the massive mountain ridge TRMOVO PLATEAU;
the road along the emerald green river Soca, however, shakes hands first with the locality Solkan where all those who come from Goriska Brda can be welcomed!

In this hilly and fertile country, which bears fruits from Spring to late Autumn, alle the dividing line finally converge.....

But....all roads lead to WINE

BETWEEN HOUSES AND AMIDST PEOPLE....

HOW VERY PROMISING A SIGHT....

Between the hills full of vineyards and fruit trees, the roads wind their way lined up by sweet villages, quiet and warm under the sun!
Of course there are small ones and big, old or more recently built but all situated in the plain or on top of the hills, with a wonderful view, that will certainly silence you as it did me!

Where there is enough room, the villages spread taking new breaths of life....
Elsewhere the typical narrow streets "gasa" of Primorska, the maritime province of Slovenia and silent witnesses of the good old days, are surrounded by rows of houses.....
This is the case in Pedrovo and in Tabor aboce Dornberk....
The spot near Sentanela gives us a stunning panoramic view of the settlements Dornberk and Prvacina as well as of the whole VALLEY....natural and cultural landscape are going hand in hand here....

In Steske you shouldn't miss the mysterious place called HELL-PEKEL .
Here a watermill was placed, built by Count Lanthieri in 1739.....

The villages look very much alike: well-kept houses tell us about the carefulness and diligence of the inhabitants!

Many estates along the WINE ROAD have opened the doors of their cellars and now offer vintage wines of the VIPAVA VALLEY to their guests.....

IN SLOVENIA, BEAUTIFUL AS PARADISE.....

PRAY AND WORK, ORA ET LABORA...

The LOWER VIPAVA VALLEY belongs to the wine-growing area of PRIMORSKA, THE SLOVENE LITTORAL.

The typical mild winters and warm summer crate conditions, ideal conditions, which enable an easy thriving and an exceptional ripening of the grapes.

The viniculture and teh winery in this place therefore are an TRADITION, as of course we all understand and...love....

The interweaving of the mediterranean and the continental climate in this area is revealed, clearly, in the wines which are TENDER and at the same time STURDY .

The wines distinguish themselves by an expressive but elegant bouquet and a full and harmonious aroma. (Ohh, I love the words one can use to describe a wine......)

The wines also reflect the abundance of SUN, SWEAT, KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE, as well as the INFINITE LOVE of the wingrower of this VIPAVA VALLEY!

The vintage wines are so excellent: the red and the white one....as a matter of fact each year they are awarded the title of CHAMPION OF THE WINE ROAD

Oops, this is the Kromberk castle near Nova Gorica, nice rennasaince mansion - for the really impressive Rihemberk castle go to e.g. leonhmeljak.com/si/grad/grad...

Het kasteel zal wel heel mooi zijn ! Ik hou van kastelen, vind dat zo fascinerend.

I saw road direction signs Nova Gorizia a lot of times driving around but I never visited it. Next time I will try to visit the castle. Thanks for sharing!
