MICE ON BREAD&BUTTER...
Yes, we love eating MICE.....
Here you see 2 of my mice on my slice of bread, wouldn't you like that too ???
I am kidding, but we do love mice on our bread.....young and old, we all love them.
There are MICE in orange/yellow/white that taste like fruit.....
There are MICE pure white that taste of ANISEED
Then there are MASHED MICE: white powder with the aniseed flavour.....
And there are still more varieties..........
We have minute aniseed "balls" that we use when there is a newborn baby! Every guest gets a rusk with white/blue mice when the baby is a boy and pink/white ones when the baby is a girl.
DUTCH LIGHTHOUSES
We have a lot of them....not only dams and dykes and pumps protect us but also the many lighthouses!
Here you see a number of them but in my TRAVELOGUE "LIGHTHOUSES" you can enjoy them all.
All are by now unmanned, which is such a pity, but that seems to be old-fashioned......although there already have been accidents which could have been prevented had their been human beings in the Lighthouse!
Enjoy them.....
We do have a 'VUURTOREN VERENIGING" here in The Netherlands!
This is a growing groups of Lighthouses enthousiasts.......with lots of activities and their knowledge is enormous......
Not only Dutch lighthouses but ALL there are, wherever they are.......

The town of <font color = blue><b>ZIERIKZEE </b></font color = blue>is very nice to visit. It is about an hour by car from my hometown Middelburg. It has many historic specialities on offer for you. In the<font color = blue><b> MUSEUMHAVEN </b></font color = blue>are old boats the ones the fishermen used to go to sea. We call them 'de bruine vloot' (<font color = blue><b>the brown flotilla</b></font color = blue>) because the sails a a wonderful <font color = blue><b>mahogany</b></font color = blue> brown color. We have a foundation called <font color = blue><b>'Stichting Behoud Hoogaars'</b></font color = blue> which tries to keep these precious boats afloat, which is quite expensive. But luckily there are many <font color = blue><b>benefactors</b></font color = blue> of the association. More info?? call or email<font color = blue><b> vvv Zierikzee.nl</b></font color = blue>
Isn't this a lovely town? Let me tell you that we have a great many of these town: water, ports, old houses with their<font color = blue><b> beautiful gables</b></font color = blue>.....imagine strolling along this canal....yes, that 's it:<font color = blue><b> great</b></font color = blue>!

This is an <font color = blue><b>almost priceless </b></font color = blue>piece of Delft Blue (in Dutch: <font color = blue><b>'Delft's Blauw'</b></font color = blue> pronounce au in 'blauw' as o in 'how'. The atelier is some 60 km. from Amsterdam just 45 min. by train from Amsterdam Centraal (Railway Station).
There are always guided tours. You can watch the entire process and even how they paint the pieces by hand. I can recommend this trip to you!

This is one of the museum pieces you can admire when here. It is painted by Van der Ast, one of the very famous Dutch artists!
<hr color ='BLUE'width='350'>
When here, in <font color = blue><b>the Netherlands</b></font color = blue>, you will see this in the streets. It is a <font color = blue><b>barrel-organ </b></font color = blue>or <font color = blue><b>street-organ</b></font color = blue>.
The <font color = blue><b>organ grinder</b></font color = blue> will play <font color = blue><b>indefatigably </b></font color = blue>to pleasure the shopping people. I have known them all my life and yet I shall always <font color = blue><b>wait</b></font color = blue> and<font color = blue><b> listen </b></font color = blue>and again walking on, the music becomes <font color = blue><b>softer and softer </b></font color = blue>to die away but the <font color = blue><b>tunes</b></font color = blue> I carry with me for hours.
The organ grinder has a <font color = blue><b>clinking</b></font color = blue>, copper <font color = blue><b>'begging' bowl</b></font color = blue>; he will thank everyone who gives him a few coins.
Soon lots of people have <font color = blue><b>gathered</b></font color = blue> around him and<font color = blue><b> children </b></font color = blue>won't want to walk on....
After wome time the organ grinder will go to <font color = blue><b>another street</b></font color = blue> or square.
At the start of <font color = blue><b>last century </b></font color = blue>people, young and old used to <font color = blue><b>dance </b></font color = blue>in the street while the organ grinder let his music<font color = blue><b> flow freely </b></font color = blue>through the streets; the <font color = blue><b>forerunners </b></font color = blue>of nowaday's<font color = blue><b> DISCO </b></font color = blue>perhaps??? (joking!)
It is possible to rent the organ e.g. for a wedding or another special, festive day and the organ grinder will play for you in front of your house or in the garden.
All street organ have a name, very famous names, this one is called:
Do have a look close by and you will see the puppets having their own musical instrument and playing it, nodding their heads and looking from left to right.
By the way: if you are interested in more music: TRAVEL TO UTRECHT because there is a special , MUSEUM which is called :' Van speeldoos tot straatpierement '
