NO, NOT A SHIPWRECK, IT IS WAITING

FOR HIGH TIDE TO COME, to be able to enter the harbour, like ships here near my house in The SW of the Netherlands do when they want to go to Antwerpen!!

Especially in the Northern part of BRETAGNE the phenomenon of the tides is spectacular.
It is caused by the GRAVITATIONAL FORCE of the moon and only for a little part by that of the sun.
When the moon is right above the sea it attracts the water which causes the rising of the sea level.
(High tide) After 6 hrs. when the earth has turned 1/4 around the gravitational force disappears and the water os low again, which is called low tide.

There is a lot to explain about the TIDES but let me say this : the hugest SPING-TIDES in France occur in MARCH AND SEPTEMBER (in France).
In GRANVILLE the difference between high tide and low tide can be as much as 16 metres !

ARMOR means: LAND NEAR THE SEA and the Gallic people gave Bretagne this name.
It has 1200 km. of shoreline because of the many indentations, wouldn't they be there it would only be some 600 km..
But these indentations make is so special, inviting and attractive...

In ithe most western part of BRETAGNE you can find: cliffs, high, steep, dark and island, rocks and cliffs, which give this region of the PENINSULA that Bretagne is its rough and tough views...

The LOCALS gave these places special names: PASSAGE DE LA GRANDE PEUR, BAIE DES TRéPASSéES, ENFER DE PLOGROFF

The estuaria between rivers RANCE and LOIRE offer such impressive views and there is sooooo much more.......
1001 GOOD REASONS TO GO VISIT BRETAGNE!

THE BAY OF ST. BRIEUC....

Here you can seen 10 places that are very worthy of your visit and of course there are lots and lots more!!

Your stay / holiday will be an onforgettable one! see my TRAVELOGUES and I am sure that you will fall in love with this part of FRANCE immediately!

BRETAGNE IN THE N.W. OF FRANCE.....

For several years I went there (by car, some 850 KM from my hometown of Middelburg) to attend courses of the French Language!

I learned a lot, met lots of nice friends, had the opportunity to travel around in my own car during the weekends and enjoyed it all very much!

It also is a paradise for those who love PHARES (LIGHTHOUSES) , especially on its south coast there are many beautiful of these "GUARDIAN ANGELS".... again.....see my TRAVELOGUES, read my STORIES there......

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:A WONDERFUL PLACE TO GO, FINE NATURE, KIND PEOPLE, LOTS OF LIGHTHOUSES...
  • Cons:IT CAN RAIN DUE TO IT BORDERING THE SEA.....AN UMBRELLA HELPS!!
  • In a nutshell:MAKE IT ONE OF YOUR FUTURE DESTINATIONS, IT'S GREAT!!

Wonderful page, Elisabeth!!!! We wanted to go this year, but the weatherforecast was too bad, so we went to the Netherlands instead! But Brittany is still on top of our vacation list!

FANTASTIC pics and info in travelogues: especially the Bay of Cesson, Le Mont St. Michel and La Côte De Granit Rose. Are you a professional photographer?
