LE PARIS DU NORD.....

LILLE is a city of about 214.000 inhabitants in the North of FRANCE.

The name of this city is already mentioned in the year 1066 on the big maps that are in its Archives.

The city is nice and especially VIEUX-LILLE which part has been renovated and a real pleasure to explore. To buy something in the quite expensive shop.....your wallet must be well-filled!!

There are some 100,000 students in Lille and the schools and University are well known and famous.

LILLE is called the PARIS OF THE NORTH and is the link between France, the UK, Belgium and The Netherlands: the TGV (super fast train) stops in Lille! It is a prominent stop now......
The GARE THE FLANDRE wasn't big enough and a new Railway station was built and for the surrounding area the DUTCH ARCHITECT REM KOOLHAAS won the competition and it was he who WAS ALLOWED TO create the MASTERPLAN.

For me Palais des Beaux Arts was a real surprise this time and I can recommend that to you: you won't regret a visit.
Both, the works of Art and the building itself(renovated in a very tasteful and special way) are delightful! Their collection is impressive and I loved the vaults in the basement.......
