Nightlife Spot: Outside the Ark bar on Chaweng beach

Over the Christmas and perticularly for new years eve there would have been hundreds of these things released into the night sky everywhere around Samui.
They actually look like a giant condoms which float slowly into the night sky and are visable for seemingly kilometres and you can watch it rise for a good 15 minutes or so .
The idea is that you light a small circular burner at the end of the cone and then hold the cone down for 2 minutes while fills the cylinder with smoke and gas which causes the cones to rise slowly into the night sky.
I'm told that you should make a wish before letting it go,which is why they were so popular with couples on new years eve.

Directions: Walk though almost any hotel or bungalo in Chaweng and you will be on Chaweng beach.

Nightlife Spot: Reggae Bar

The Reggae pub is a great way to ease yourself into a good night out.
It starts off really at about 10.30 with some mellow Reggae music and some rock ballads. They have a very good house band that has been playing there nightly for quite some time now.
As the place fills up a bit the band plays more funky dance tunes and some newer stuff and then hands over to a DJ for some of the latest dance music around.
Should you go there alone as I did and you will meet people and have a good time for sure.
Try thier buckets of Vodka and Red bull to get you kick started!! ;-P
Big dance floor and it is open sided so it is not as hot as other clubs in Chaweng.

Dress Code: No dress requirement just cool and casual.
Shorts and a tee shirt for the guys is enough.
Address: Across Chaweng lake
Directions: If you are heading towards Lamai from Chaweng take the first right that you can after the pizza company and go past some small bars on a dodgey dirt track till you can turn left. Turn left over the lake then right ..your almost there!
