Patong beach is the most popular beach in Phuket because most of the big Phuket hotels are situated here as well as most of the shops. Patong beach is a hive of activity everyday and you can go there just for a dip or to try the abundance of watersports available, or as some do,just for the deckchair service of food and drinks and to watch the world go by in front of you. You can do all kinds of shopping from your deckchair as well as have a massage or parasail, or rent a jetski and the ladies can even have their hair and nails done, as my friend Jody did. Patong beach is well worth a visit and to me the afternoons are best as the mornings can be too hot.

The evening begins with a lavish all you can eat buffet followed by free time for, sideshows, elephant rides, shopping and looking around. After dinner you will be ushered into the "Temple of the elephants" for a award winning Las Vegas style show featuring over 30 elephants, aerial ballet and acrobatics. The Thai costumes and sets are great and the display of historical and cultural themes throughout the show will keep everyone entertained for sure.

The mountains and beaches of Phuket are about as beautiful as any that you will see anywhere. This photo was taken from a lookout on the hills above Kata beach. Some of the views of the coastline and beaches from the mountains around Kata beach and Kata Noi beaches in particular are sensational, as is the road from there to Rawai beach. Also the road from Patong to Karon beach also has some excellent viewpoints and you can stop for a Chang beer along the way like I did if you want. ;-) My advice would be to get your own transport, weather it be bike or car and pack up the travel companions and just drive the island. Then you can stop off where-ever you want to. I would start with the southern tip of the island and have a sensational seafood lunch in Rawai beach.

Directions: South from Patong along the coast road through Karon beach then turn right off the main road through the town of Kata. From there you go up the big hill to the lookout and over the other side to Rawai beach for a seafood lunch.Enjoy!

This is a great bus and boat tour to do and you can organize it at any travel or tour agent in Patong. There are many types of trips to do that include James Bond Island and Phang-na so take your pick between a full or half day tour depending on how big a night you want to have the night before I suppose. The (Sims) half day trip that I did doesn't leave Patong until late morning or lunchtime and will pick you up from your hotel if your are staying in Patong. The bus trip includes a visit to the the Buddhist elephant caves and the Muslim fishing village and a long tail boat ride from Phangna to James Bond Island.
