Deltona, for those who have not yet had the pleasure, is basically a ghost town that never dies. Don't let the city status of Deltona fool you. It's based on population alone (somewhere around 80,000 now) and not on the typical amenities one would normally associate with an urban environment. We have our own fire department but law enforcement is mostly left to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and the Citizens' Patrol (which-for those of you who don't know- is a cute little brigade of retiree volunteers in decomissioned police cruisers). There are two public high schools and a gaggle of middle and elementary schools. Fun times in Deltona are to be had only by finding your way to the many I-4 exits and going somewhere else...unless there's a good house party...or you like skating.
- Pros:Right in the middle. There isn't anywhere in Central Florida more than an hour's drive
- Cons:Retirement community on steroids
- In a nutshell:Not a bad place to pitch your tent...if you like commutes
