Faro is the Capital of the Algarve which is one of the portuguese provinces. This city lies in the heart of the constantly changing Formosa estuary ("Ria Formosa"). The Romans were probably the first to give the place a special character by creating the city defences and exploring the fishing resources. But Faro history is much older than roman times accounting for the number of pre-historic fishing artefacts found. This is an interesting city that you will have to learn to discover. The People of the Algarve are naturally happy, frank and talkative. And they feel pround when tourists choose their land, their Algarve, as the place to spend their holidays. And also when visitors appreciate its lovely landscape, its ways and traditions, the old buildings that reflect its history. Start talking with people of the Algarve. You will certainly be met with a great simile.... a smile that says "Welcome". |
