Lima

A "stop-over" in the capital

Our main goal for the Peru trip was the Machu Picchu ruins and the Inca trail to get there. We decided to spend more time in Cusco as we were told Lima is not as interesting.

Not sure if that is true, but we only had a day to visit the historical center and we had the chance to see some nice architecture, but not that much to visit as most of these buildings were off-limits for tourists.

We visited some churches and wandered through the streets. Another thing that we had been warned about was to be very careful as there are many muggings/pickpockets, etc. We actually felt quite safe, I had never seen so much police at the same place at the same time, with most of them set out to make sure nothing happens to tourists... maybe that was why.

Traffic was maybe the most chaotic I have ever seen anywhere (and I thought it was difficult to beat Catania in Italy :)), there seem to be very little respect for any rules, but since we were in a Taxi, that was not a huge problem. Oh.. I did not see any accidents, which more or less confirms my wife's theory that there is always order in chaos, especially when it comes to traffic. If all drivers know there are no rules, they manage to get along just fine!
