"Komarno... Slovak Republic" Komarno by RandomDreamer

Komarno Travel Guide: 3 reviews and 5 photos

If it wasn't for an unrelyable train timetable, I would never have come to Komarno. I would have been in Budapest making my way from Nyugati Palyaudvar to Deli... alas, I found myself on the Slovak/Hungarian border after a long and staggered journey from Bratislava.

I wouldn't reccomend crossing the border here for Hungary as the espress train to Budapest or crossing at Eszergom is better... but if you do find yourlelf in my predicament you won't be too put out.

There was once a single town called Komarom. Then an international border came along and split the town into two... Slovakia definitely got the better half.

Komarno is, like most Slovak towns, pretty and friendly. It's so much nicer than Komarom over the border but that's okay, you'll be on your train from there to your destination within an hour or two.

It's quite nice to stand on the bridge over the river Danube looking at Slovakia on one side and Hungary on the other.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:On the Hungarian Border
  • Cons:Despite not far from Bratislava... it's a disproportionately long train journey away!
  • In a nutshell:Nicer than it's Hungarian counterpart
