On the West Bank of Lake Balaton, Keszthely is a tourist town but also maintains a life of itself it's university and army barracks.

Nonetheless, it's still pretty dead in the winter (even the non-stop bar stopped). But if you like it peaceful then come here then.

Cannot really speak for how it is in the summer but get the impression it's a muchly visited resort.

The lake is vast and beautiful and nice to walk along at any time of year and Keszthely is only a short bus ride from the Thermal Spa at Heviz.
