In my mind, The Charles Bridge is the crowning glory of this wonderful city. Stroll it every day you spend in the city and after dark look out over at night vista. The tower on the east bank is worth climbing for only 35czk and gives a nice view of the Little Qarter on the other bank. There are lots of street artists, musicians and market stalls that set up here... they add to the atmosphere although you'll probably pay over the odds for anything you buy. Be careful in winter, it becomes extremely slippery,,, I can testify to that!

As the hour nears, hordes gather around the astronomical clock to watch the mechanical display do it's thing. The little characters emerge from their hiding places and a bell tolls. The look of dissapointment on the crowds' faces is almost universal but no trip to Prague is complete without experiencing this group dissapointment. At 4am when there are very few people are about and the evil Absynthe has severely impared your world... it suddenly becomes quite magical.

Petrin tower: The Best View of Prague

Okay, it's not the best view of Prague to be had but the climb up Petrin Hill makes it feel that way... if you don't take the fenicular railway that is. The 200ft structure was built by the Soviets which blurts out in your mind and worries you when you feel how much it sways in the wind, but the view is great. Try to get there before dusk as the city is remarkably poorly lit at night. You'll also glimpse a view of the slightly grittier Prague that hides behind Petrin Hill. By the Tower there is also a mirror maze (well more of a mirrored walkway) and the Hunger wall, so named as it was built by the poor of the city in return for food back in the 14th century.

Lennon Wall: Etchings of Freedom

Under communist rule, the Lennon Wall was where people would go to grafitti their deams and aspirations. Complete freedom of expression and a contrast to the world surrounding it at the time. Today, it looks way too busy and the sentiments scribed upon it are nowhere near what you may have imagined. However, it has a huge significance in the city's history and that alone should afford it a visit. Look hard enough you may find something profound amongst the mess.

In the heart of the new town and in the middle of the bustling Wenceslas Square this is a place to stop off and see at some point but certainly not a place for relaxation. Complete contrast to the Prague you imagine, Wenceslas Square could be in any nameless city in Europe.

Small and a little overpriced but this entirely sinister museum brings a chill to your body and leaves your brain ever so lightly disturbed. Well worth a visit.

Like most of Prague this part of town is beautiful. What's better though is that there's very few crowds (so lond as you're not by the Jewish Cemetery) and there's a certain quaintness to the area that contradicts the grandeur of the rest of the city.

Kampa Island is a peaceful and picturesque retreat in the heart of the city on the western bank of the river. The perfect place to stop for a drink or something to eat whilst you look out at deserted street.
