Thousand Islands

Thousand Islands are groups of tiny islands (actual number is 110) that are scattered around Jakarta bay. Unfortunately, human impacts
have led to the disappearing of the islands one by one.The condition of the
coral reefs are also continuing to decline. This is mostly because its
location is so close to Jakarta with about 20 million population, plus industrial polution, global warming,the el nino effect, fish bombing, cyanide fishing and many more.

You can rent a boat or just take the public ferryboat to one of the islands. Some islands are inhabited and some are not. It's good for a weekend getaway for Jakarta residents. Must do activities: Diving, Snorkeling, Fishing, Canoeing or just simply enjoy the sun, sea and shore.

You should go to the islands that takes at least 2. hr by boat to get there. Or else it would be still poluted due to its location in Jakarta Bay. The further you go, the cleaner the water :)

Happy innocent local kids always spend their afternoons swimming until the sun sets... i envy them ... :P

Pros and Cons

Pros:must go there before they all disappear!!
Cons:watch out for the sea urchins! they can hurt you!
In a nutshell:i wish there were really a thousand of them scattered around Jakarta Bay !
