I was completely blown away with just how stunning Zion canyon was. there is so much to see and do inside the park that we really didn't have enough time to see everything we'd have liked to. I'd consider this to be one of the best spots i've ever had the privilage to visit and i'm positive i'll be returning in the not too distant future.
The park makes for a perfect 2-3 day trip if you're into hiking. also if you're in Las Vegas and considering a day trip, Zion is a great alternative to the grand canyon and is only 2 hours away.
There's a great visitors center at the park where you can watch a short film about the park's history. Apparantly mormon settlers were among the first people to call the canyon home. They called it Zion because this is the word for heaven which they'd thought they'd found. After you see the park it becomes very dificult to argue against this claim!

The Canyon itself is the crown jewel of the park. you can be awed by simply taking the shuttlebus through the park and watching from the ground, or you can see it from up on high by taking on of the many spectacular hikes in and around the area.

Angels landings is one of the premier hikes that you can do. I really can't say enough about the view from the top. Even the rock formation that is angels landing is something to behold. The hike was one of the most rewarding i've ever done. it was both challenging and fun and at the end you're rewarded with a simply magnificent view of the canyon.
