"Dunbar" Dunbar by stevezero

Dunbar Travel Guide: 5 reviews and 21 photos

Dunbar - one of favourite stopping off plaves an our frequent travels from Belper to Aberdeenshire. Just of the A1 road it is a pretty stone built town, with fine harbours.
The remains of the old castle dominate the harbour area, but sadly it is no loger accesable due to its state of decay.

Castle fit for seagulls

In the spring the remains of the castle are taken over by nesting seagulls. Every available nook and cranny seems to be occupied by these noisy birds.
Many more birds nest on the famous Bass Rock, which is clearly visible from Dunbar.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:On the sea, views of Bass rock, fine walks
  • Cons:did they have to build the leisure centre there?
  • In a nutshell:Former seaside resort, that's always nice to drop by
