The Harbour

From Lorne we followed The Great Ocean Road once more as we skirted the Otway Range and pased through small settlements and over many river estuaries on our way to Apollo Bay where we were to spend the next night,

The town was founded in the 1850's by settlers attracted to the huge timber supply to be found locally. At first access was only by sea and it wasn't until the completion of the Great Ocean Road in 1932 that the town became a tourist resort.

The Bay

The town also boasts a fine harbour where fresh crayfish are a speciality. In Apollo Bay we stayed at the Bay Pines Motel in a room with a fine view of the Southern Ocean
