In front of the Palacio Real is the Plaza Oriente. The Royal Palace originally bore the same name as the square, Palacio Oriente, or East Palace. Statues of queens are all over the square. The intention was to put these statues on top of the palace but they were too heavy, so they were placed on the square in front of the palace instead. Things to do in Madrid. |

We arrived in Madrid on a Sunday. After checking in to our hotel, we immediately walked over to Prado Museum, because there is free admission on Sundays. Special exhibits are not free, but there is plenty to see in the permanent collection. | | |

chinhao Thu Aug 25, 2005 17:53 UTC Cerveceria Cervantes is like a jewel hidden behind the great museum strip. We just happened to venture out into the little streets and saw a crowd squeezing into this restaurant. The wait staff was very nice and helped us get a table amid the madness. | bijo69 Wed Aug 10, 2005 23:10 UTC Great start!
