Würzburg

View of the Main River, from the Alte Mainbrücke.
Würzburg is the northernmost city on the Romantic Road. The Celts founded the city around 650 B.C. where the Marienberg Fortress now lies. It is the center of Germany's Franken wine growing region. Würzburg offers historic art and architecture spanning the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods. It also offers excellent white wine. You can see the vineyards in the background of the above picture.
Würzburg is a really fun city with a great mix of history and food & wine. There is a large university population, so there is plenty of bars, restaurants, and shopping.

Here we are walking along the Main River, which affords a gorgeous view of the Marienburg Castle.

Hope you had a good time in Würzburg. I went there this summer, too.
