Ko Samet in Rayong is just about 180km from Bangkok - making it a perfect spot for some reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city. It could get particularly crowded on weekends and public holidays, when both locals and expats converge on the island.

It's a pleasure to be there, even when it's rainy and overcast. (Okay, if you're mad about tanning, then, no joy.) Take refuge in an A-frame hut with a straw roof, enjoy rocking your hammock, relish some fresh topical fruits, dine on the beach and get a massage under the coconut tree!
