Grampian mountains

My first contact with Scotland? The cause was to get away from all at home, to get a rest. I visited a friend who lived there since many years. He had a hunting travel company. So the first place was Enochdue, Dirnanean, Perthshire.
My hobby at that time (the hunt - special album) led me often come back, also to Blackhills, Elgin, Morayshire.
Later I travelled together with my children, and got to know new friends.

In this country started my movie profession, I got the first assignment. I would like to write this comments with my native language. Then I could describe it better what I felt during my visits there.

This country means not "only kilts and whisky", like so many people told when they came back to Germany. (I like Islay Malt of course :) ) Alba means for me great history, strength, vastness, light and colors. Silence, peace and nature. Rain, snow and clouds.

Every time when I was a guest in Scotland I got back patience, special views for my eyes and calm for the heart.

The moon over the Highlands was another moon. Why? I don´t know, it was so. And never in Germany I "felt" true silence like first time in Dirnanean.

Glen Lyon

It´s such a beautiful route. Long time we met no one people, rarely a car. Only the voices of nature, animals and fantastic light accompanied out tour. I love that place and one time I´ll return there, I am sure!

The Animals

At one house in this valley, lonesome. Both, woman and stag. Lonesome? You must only visit one another...

That one stag took the food out of the hands by woman. It was a free living red deer. Deers often come down to the valleys in early spring. Along the road back from Braemar to Dirnanean we could watch ca. thousand red deers during the last light of the day. It was a georgious scenery.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:nature scenery, history and lovely people
  • Cons:only one, the food
  • In a nutshell:If you want get your heart full with love and peace, go there!

For goodness' sake get your history right. The misled leader of the troops at Glencoe was Captain ROBERT Campbell.

Fantastic overview of Scotland. You have certainly seen a great deal. We are off to Torridon and Applecross in our motorhome in Aug. but I don't think we'll attempt the steep pass.

Hi I come from Rosyth, I can agree with you. I left Rosyth 30 years ago and have found no reason to return. However if you do go back to Fife, visit the small fishing villages, St Monans, Aberdour.....there are so many nice places, but not Rosyth!
