Waldsassen, what a nice town! Charming and centered in a beautiful landscape, only 5 km far from Czechian border (Eger). The Basilica was built in 1682-1704 by Dientzenhofer and Leuthner. One of the most great baroque churches of Bavaria. The crypt under the basilica counts as one of the biggest in Germany. The basilica is opened daily and all day of the year. The Jann organ of the basilica is one of the biggest organs of Europe (103 Register). To hear her sound is a special event, on Sunday, or in one of the famous concerts (mostly sold out). The former crypt for the Cistercian's monks under the basilica counts as one of the biggest monastery crypts of Germany and shows graves walls and indoor ways. She is accessible only to group guidances after advance reservation. From Gefell you need by car only few more than an half of hour to Waldsassen. So I´m often there in Waldsassen, also in the area of the second church Kappel (another tip), which is only a few miles far from it. And Holiday season without ine visit of Christmas market there or concert? No!

Staffelstein, a wonderful town nearby Lichtenfels. Two very beautiful and interesting sightseeings. One of them is Basilica Vierzehnheiligen, also a pilgimage place. It´s the "most colorful" church I´ve seen. Light colors. The Abbot of Langheim let built with the chapel 1457, the new building started 1743 by Balthasar Neumann, the famous architect in Bavaria. A wonderful organ, impressive architecture, a special Basilica, indeed! It´s the church of the 14 Nothelfer (helper in need). It´s a monastery (Franziskaner) also today. Link is with viewer inside.

Monastery Ettal, 900 meters above sea level, is located in a mountain valley of the Western Alpine foothills. One of the most travelled and most popular roads goes through Ettal. Ettal has a long historical development and demonstrates one of the main concerns of a Benedictine Abbey. Ettal has a wonderful and great library and the church is very impressive. It´s also today an important monastery with a private high school, included boarding school (approximately 420 pupils). More and detailed information are on webside (different languages).
