After a short stay in Hanoi, my next destination is the famous Ha Long or Bay of the Descending Dragon around the northeast of Vietnam. I can’t really figure out the entire dragon story but the for sure I can say it’s really hot during the day & even at night. The Vietnamese are proud to call this place as the world's Eighth wonder as declared by UNESCO. Yeah I would be proud too.
One of the main attractions of Ha long is the bay's cool water and the thousands of limestone mountain floating around. The Bay's water is rather clear during my visit. Some of the islands are quite large and there are small ones with sandy beaches where swimming is possible. And what better way to visit this heritage is via Junk boat.
There are quite a few sites/caves to visit here so much so that some tourists actually spend about a week moving around searching for the descending dragon ; )
To visit this cave the visitors must take a small row boat to access the entrance. On the way the rower must maneuver through a variety of rock formation often so narrow that only one boat can fit through at a time. And these rowers/junk boat drivers can really do wonders when parking along with other junk.
The caves are cooler than the air outside. As one proceed deeper into the cave, the surroundings become more mystifying as the rocky walls take different shapes, sizes, and hues. Besides caves there is 'shallow' mountain with 200 over steps. Phew !!! which leads you to the top for an over view of this wonderful bay.
Whatever is it this place is worth every penny and worth a visit if you do drop by Hanoi. |
