Glacier National Park Montana

Wild Goose Isle St. Mary’s Lake

It takes a while to get to Glacier National Park, but the scenery is well worth it. The mountains are dramatic and dusted with snow. In early May there was significant snow at higher elevations, though nearly all of the roads in the national part were open. There are hundreds of miles of trails ranging from very easy park and walk for 10 minutes trails to days of back-country hiking. Significant parts of the park can be seen by car. Out of the prime season (June-August) the park is quiet, peaceful and full of wildlife.
Moose in Two Medicine Creek

Moose!

I never expected to see a moose. I was driving into the park from East Glacier and I came up on a bridge across Two Medicine Creek and looked over to check out the water and there was a moose wading into the water and across the creek. I pulled over, jumped out with the camera and was able to catch 3-4 shots before she disappeared into the trees on the far side. Keep a camera handy, lens cap off, set to the fastest viewing option; you never know what will be around the next bend in the road.

Falls

Little falls and larger falls seem to be around every corner in Glacier National Park. This one is a short hike off Two Medicine Road before you get to the lake and the camp ground. There was a nice parking area. The hike is flat and easy, about 1/3 of a mile (about 7 minutes each way.) I was there on a warm spring day and the snow melt had the falls running at several times there normal volume. Enjoy!
