Iznik formerly known as Nicea, lies at the eastern tip of Lake Iznik. Originally an importent Roman and Byzantine town, it fell to Selcuks in 1078 and subsequently to thr Ottomans in 1331 and remained under the sovereignty of Ottoman Empire for a long time. |
